Tech editing

Combine a background in engineering, obsessive knitting, knitwear design and a voracious appetite for reading design books and you get a tech editor- That's me!

I have experience with a wide range of patterns as a knitter and designer and have taken the popular Tech editing course produced by Joeli's kitchen along with classes on pattern grading and design.

Tech editing gives you extra confidence in your pattern and helps to achieve a polished product. It can be really tricky to spot errors in your own work, so a second set of eyes can be just the thing to pick them out. A thorough maths check reassures you that the pattern will work as you plan.

I offer competitive rates for tech editing, including a special fixed rate offer for your first pattern:

£17 for a basic accessory (e.g. cowls, hats, scarves, single sized items)

£35 for more complex accessories (e.g. socks, heavily patterned hats or cowls, multi-sized items)

£60 for complex patterns (e.g. sweaters in multiple sizes, lace shawls)

This price includes checking style and layout; proof reading; comparing gauge with stitch counts; checking stitch counts, increases, decreases; checking sizing against standards; clarity of instructions; checking photos; checking charts (if relevant).

For further patterns or more complex editing I offer a rate of £21.00 per hour.

If you are looking for technical editing for your patterns get in touch via email using contact @ alittlebitsheepish (dot) co (dot) uk

Knitting and crochet tech editing are offered.

Client feedback:

"Fiona is such a fantastic tech editor, with a very quick turnaround time. No matter how thoroughly I have proofread a pattern, she always finds and corrects some additional mistakes as well as giving great advice on style and content. I'd be lost without her  - her edits have made such a positive difference to my pattern writing, I would recommend her to any knitting pattern designer in a heartbeat!"
